Ciao amici! My heart is in Tuscany, but my thirst for adventure covers all of Italy. I'm always searching for authentic gems and stories waiting to be tasted.
As I've told you before, I put together with my sommelier friend Stefano "Ana's Secret Wine Box"—a selection of 12 incredible bottles from small, passionate producers across Italy. This isn't about famous labels; it's about soul, story, and the true song of Italian terroir, delivered to your door.
Today, I'd like to take you with me to Montalcino (one of my favourite towns in Italy), to tell you about one winery that perfectly captures this spirit: Col di Lamo.
This winery is a beautiful example of a family dream brought to life by mother and daughter. It's incredibly heartening to witness the growing influence and success of women in the wine industry. At the helm is Giovanna Neri, whose winemaking journey was sparked by her father's own passion. Balancing a legal education with a profound love for wine, Giovanna has earned a stellar reputation as one of Montalcino's most esteemed producers.

This reputation was recently cemented in a big way. In 2025, Col di Lamo was officially recognised as one of Italy's "100 Iconic Wineries" by Forbes Italia. This prestigious list celebrates the very best in Italian wine, and Col di Lamo was honoured for its "dedication to the quality of Tuscan wines and Brunello with a sartorial approach to every single production". This award is a fantastic testament to their commitment to sustainable practices and high-quality, artisanal wines, with their exceptional Brunello di Montalcino receiving special mention.
I love Giovanna's guiding philosophy: "take care of your roots, so they can grow into wings." You can feel that nurturing energy in every bottle—a distinctive, almost maternal care that defines her unique style... This feminine essence is captured beautifully on the label itself, which features the delicate profile of a woman in warm, earthy tones of orange and green.

A Closer Look at Their Rosso di Montalcino
As a highlight of our selection, we included their Rosso di Montalcino 2022. The hills of Montalcino are where the Sangiovese grape truly shines, creating wines of great depth that are built to last for years. Here, Giovanna Neri (whose family also runs the renowned Casanova di Neri estate) tends to 7 hectares of vines at Col di Lamo.
This particular wine is pure Sangiovese. Think of a rich, velvety red with whispers of earthy forest floor and a hint of spice. It's beautifully harmonious. And with a production of just 8000 bottles, it's a true find!
From their spectacular plots in the heart of Montalcino—including the "Diletta" vineyard named after her daughter—every bottle is a true reflection of this cherished land, made with traditional and sustainable care.

This is the kind of passion and story in every bottle we've selected.
