Florence’s Morning Feast: Market Tastings & Renaissance Artisans with an Art Historian
3.5 hours

This unique experience combines gourmet tastings at Florence’s historic market with exclusive visits to artisan workshops—all under the guidance of an expert art historian who has taught at universities and is deeply passionate about Florence’s living traditions.
San Lorenzo Market – Food Tour
We begin in the handsome 19th-century covered market, where you’ll be introduced to local Florentine specialties and culinary traditions, with tastings where possible.
Stone Mosaic Artisan – Workshop & Store
Next, we visit the inspiring workshop of a family of artisans who practice commesso fiorentino, the art of creating intricate stone inlay furniture, objets d’art, and ‘paintings in stone.’ Using hand tools and techniques unchanged since the Renaissance, these craftsmen continue a tradition so prized that the Medici Grand Dukes adorned their tombs with their work.
Goldsmith & Jeweller – Workshop & Store
Florence’s goldsmiths have dazzled the world since the Renaissance—many of the city’s greatest artists, including Ghiberti (creator of the Baptistery’s Gates of Paradise), trained in this craft. Here, you’ll witness a demonstration of goldworking techniques and even see how the famed gold Florin, the currency that fueled Florence’s wealth since 1252, was hammered into being.
Paper-Making & Bookbinding Workshop – Store
Finally, we step into the world of Florentine paper artistry, where you’ll watch the mesmerising process of decorating handmade paper with swirling marble and peacock patterns. You’ll also see exquisite hand-bound books, diaries, and agendas—testaments to a craft that remains vital to Florence’s artistic legacy.
A journey for the senses and the imagination, this tour reveals how Florence’s flavours and craftsmanship have been intertwined for centuries.
