Taking a tram between Florence airport and city center

The tram is a cheap and convenient option: no traffic for trams, thankfully ;). Here's all the info you need :)

Tickets

There are two ways to purchase your ticket for the tram:

  1. Through the TABNET App on Your Smartphone: You can buy and validate single tickets via your smartphone using the "TABNET" app, available for Android and iOS. This is the easiest, safest, and fastest way to purchase and use your tram ticket.

  2. At the Tram Stop through the Vending Machine: All tram stops have automatic vending machines where you can buy single tickets. These machines accept debit and credit cards from Visa, Vpay, Maestro, and Mastercard, including contactless payments.

Ticket validation

Always remember to validate your ticket as soon as you get on the tram using the small machine inside to avoid a hefty fine!

Luggage on the tram

For luggage, you are allowed to carry one piece of luggage for free, with a maximum weight of 10 kg and dimensions of 55x40x20 cm (but I have never seen anyone measuring or weighing your luggage). For larger items, you can carry up to two pieces per person by purchasing an additional ticket for each, with maximum dimensions of 80x45x25 cm and weight of 20 kg. Items larger than these dimensions or heavier than 20 kg are prohibited. Children's prams and strollers can be transported for free, provided they are dismantled and kept in a case. The Florence tramway unfortunately does not have dedicated spaces for storing luggage, so you need to keep your luggage in a way that does not disturb other passengers. Frankly, the tram got pretty busy the closer it got to the city center, but it was still fine.

Tram schedule

The trams run every day from 5 am to 12:30 am at night (and until 2 am on Friday and Saturday). For schedule for T2 tram please always check here before your trip: https://www.gestramvia.it/timetables/?lang=en

Tram stops

Tram stop at the airport (heading to the city): As soon as you exit the airport, turn left and follow the signs, and just 2 minutes of walking will lead you to the tram tracks. The tram stop at the airport is called Peretola Aeroporto.

Finally, here's a video you might find useful on me taking this train from the airport and heading to the city center :)
